Who is T. L. West?
“Working as a nurse exposed me to all kinds of environments,” she says.
“Nursing homes, hospital cancer wards, cardiac units—I’ve seen it all.”
She thinks her experiences are what shape her art.
“If I didn’t live through the things that I have lived through, I would not love life as much as I do
now, and to me, life is art.”
Why does she paint? “I have to,” she says. After the 2004 hurricanes hit
Florida, Terri felt a need to express her desire for peace and beauty. Her
painting,
“My Secret Garden,”
was based on a dream she had of a place to escape to... Eden.
Terri L West first became interested in art as a young girl growing up in Hawaii, drawing landscapes
and portraits. When her family moved to Florida in 1976, she took up painting, but didn’t continue her
interest in art until later in life. Terri has had many roles in her life—wife, mother, nurse—
and now, artist.
After years of working as a nurse,
Terri rekindled her love of art by creating visions of her world on canvas.
Terri uses knife techniques with thick paint,
as well as very thin washes of transparent glazes with a brush.
At this point in her life, Terri says that almost all she thinks about is the next painting.
“The ideas keep popping into my head. I feel if I don’t paint the idea, I’m turning down a gift.”
She feels that art is a personal
confirmation of God.
Terri L. West is an internationally collected artist. Her original Art works can be found all over the
United States as well as in Canada and Mexico

Artist Statement
My art is the expression of my joy of God's creation and may include the expression of Christian Theology, and of the inspired word.
The world needs to revisit the beauty of creation. Not so much viewed through the eyes of reality, but with the inspired mood that is obtained from seeing the glory of the world's landscapes.
I use oil and mixed media to create my art on canvas which I attempt to convey an ancient secret story.
